我以前介绍过GNC创办人David Shakarian, 其实在美国营养补充品产业还有另外一位先驱, 叫Arthur Rudolph. 他是自然之宝(Nature's Bounty ), 维他命世界(Vitamin World)连锁店, Puritan's Pride邮购创办人. 他1960年开始创立"维他命世界"零售店, 现在 "维他命世界"有500多家连锁店, 是仅次于GNC的全美第二大健康食品连锁店, 他1971年创立了自然之宝公司(现名为NBTY Inc), 这家公司1992在纳斯达克上市, 曾经是美国发展最快公司之一, 现在在全球有雇员14000人,公司产品种类3000多个，超过22,000个单品(SKU)，拥有众多国际知名品牌，其中包括Nature's Bounty, Sundown Naturals, Puritan's Pride,Vitamin World, Osteo-Bi-Flex, Balance Bar,MET-Rx 和 GNC (UK). 另外还有Holland & Barrett (UK),Rexall, Solgar, Precision Engineered, WORLDWIDE Sport Nutrition, American Health, Knox, Herbal Authority, Doctor's Trust 和Good N Natural等等 . Arthur2013年过世, 享年85岁.我想令他最高兴的应该是, 在他过世前的2010年NBTY被凯雷集团(The Carlyle Group)以38亿美元收购, 凯雷集团管理资产达980亿美元，是全球顶级的私募投资集团。 这个天价并购震惊整个行业，至今仍为人们津津乐道，2010年因此在美国膳食补充剂简史上被标识为“NBTY年”.
